Ruidoso Weather

Ruidoso is known for its four gentle seasons … a very temperate high alpine environment created by the Village’s southern latitude. We experience very few temperature and weather extremes throughout the year. This has always been one of the primary reasons Ruidoso has remained so attractive as a relocation, retirement or vacation home destination. Because of the varied topography and often dramatic elevation changes which exist in the Ruidoso area, temperatures and weather conditions can vary considerably over short distances. In a word … Ruidoso weather is beautiful!

Ruidoso Average Precipitation

The annual average rainfall is 23 inches ... most of this arriving in July and August with the summer monsoons. It’s a beautiful time of the year with these summer rains “greening up the mountains”! Our annual average snowfall in town is 47 inches. This can be very deceiving however as daily highs almost always ensure a quick melt off after every winter storm. The area’s neighboring 12,000 foot peak, Sierra Blanca and home to Ski Apache resort receives an annual average of 180 inches and it typically stays up on the Mountain for the enjoyment of local and visiting skiers and snowboarders.
